Hello. I’m Coach2K.
I set up Coach2K.com to share what I’ve learned playing the game of NBA2K basketball.
I grew up in the state of Indiana which used to be considered basketball country.
I played organized basketball from about fifth grade through high school and then recreationally until I turned 35 years old. Then I retired.
While I was a starter on my high school varsity basketball team, it was a small school so I can’t say that I was awesome by any means (I was actually a better baseball player as I once struck out 20 guys in one game).
However, if you watched the movie Hoosiers, I can tell you that I grew up playing in gyms just like those here in Indiana.
As time went by, I developed a pretty good three point shot and have been told that I was the greatest flat footed three point shooter they ever saw. Well, I doubt it but it was a fun compliment. The only sad part about that fact is that when I played high school ball, they didn’t even have the three point line back then.
Indiana Pacers Fan
I have been watching NBA basketball since the late 70’s and used to be a big Indiana Pacers fan.
I was a Pacers season ticket holder for a while and have experienced my share of fan frustration. But I also got to see some of the best playoff memories in Pacers (and NBA) history including being in the building to see all three NBA Finals games in 2000 versus the Shaq and Kobe Lakers!
I love the game of basketball and even though the Pacers weren’t the greatest team when I started playing NBA2K, I chose to use them exclusively because I live in Indianapolis and was a true fan of the team.
Because of that, it was rare when I played other users that I used any other team than the Indiana Pacers in NBA2K no matter which team my opponent chose.
Eventually, I learned so much about my NBA2K Pacers that I was able to learn how to win with them against some of the best hall of fame level players and CPU teams in NBA2K.
My NBA2K Gaming Philosophy
While many people focus on how to exploit NBA2K, that’s never been the focus of Coach2K.
My biggest goal with Coach2K was to get people on the court actually playing complete games against each other or the CPU. I noticed that a lot of NBA2K players don’t actually like to play the game. Instead, many players would avoid getting on the court and if they did would often (and still do) quit at the first sign of adversity in a game. It was easier to sit on the sidelines and complain about the game or something they didn’t like about they way the users they faced played the game rather than play and lead by example of how the game should be played.
My gaming philosophy was always to play everyone who wanted to play me, in a no rules, no quitting, open play style approach whether that meant I got slaughtered or not. I believe in being a good sport whether I win or lose. Although I’m decent, I’m not the greatest NBA2K player in the world. In fact, most of you are probably better than me and you should be because most of you are half my age or more.
While I used to play users almost exclusively in my Coach2K league. Those were some great times. These days, outside of playing a friend or two once in a while, I don’t play users anymore. I am strictly an offline MyLeague player. However, I still play all of my games in a 12 minute quarter format.
I do my best to show you how to play the game of NBA2K the way I think it should be played and hope that my site and my videos help you improve your game.
I encourage you to watch my MyLeague series with the expansion team Cincinnati Lions. It was one of the longest series that I worked on and had the most fun with.
